Liquor license transfer timeline when buying a restaurant in Texas

Under contract on a bar and grill in Houston. TABC transfer is the long pole. How long did your last Texas liquor license transfer take, and did you close before it was issued or after?

Our last Houston transfer took a little over two months once the packet was complete. We closed with a holdback so the seller stayed on the license until TABC finished the change.

Do not assume the license moves with the lease. It is a separate filing. If the seller has violations sitting on the file, that can add weeks. Pull the TABC status before you waive diligence.
